Counselling and Psychotherapy

Therapy with Cat

What is counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling can help you explore and understand patterns that have emerged in your life and provides an opportunity to work through these. It can help to relieve pain, depression or anxiety, help you make decisions, or help you to work towards better relationships with those around you.

Who is it suitable for?

Sometimes life can feel problematic or overwhelming. You may be trying to make a decision or you may be feeling stuck in the same thoughts or patterns.

Some people find it useful to talk to someone, whereas others might find that too daunting. We are all different. Some people come to therapy knowing what they want to explore, and some people are unsure. Therapy can be suitable for anyone who wants help, whether they have figured out their goals or not.

There are a range of different therapies that might be suitable for different people, so for some people it’s about finding the right type.

What type of therapy is it?

I practice integrative therapy, which is a form of talking therapy that uses methods from CBT, humanistic and attachment theory. Therefore, no two clients will have the same experience of therapy, as each session is tailored to you as an individual.

Cost

Therapy is currently delivered online via Whereby. The initial session is £30, as this is a session for us to get to know each other and see if we would work well together. Otherwise, sessions last 50 minutes and cost £50, which can be payable by bank transfer.

If you think counselling might be for you, please contact me to make an initial appointment.

Testimonials

“My heart felt thanks to you for all your invaluable help and support and for giving me strength and skills. You are an awesome therapist.”

- Client M

“I have been working with Catherine for around 9 months now and can honestly say she has helped me significantly. Her ability to make you feel comfortable and free to express yourself is exceptional and I believe that I have been able to be more open than I ever thought I would be able to due to this. Catherine’s attention to detail whilst listening to a piece of information is something that has massively helped me as the follow up questions have helped me to delve deeper into the issues I was struggling to unpick. She is also very flexible and understanding when it comes to things such as session times and how the session takes place, which has helped me due to my occupation. I can't honestly thank her enough for the support she has given me since we began working together.”

- Client D

“Therapy has given me more information, support and understanding. And Catherine was excellent”

- Client C

“Therapy has helped me to understand more about myself and why I was jumping to my unhealthy habits. Learning to be kinder to myself allowed me to let go of my guilt and shame. Thank you for listening and teaching me these skills.”

- Client R

I started counselling because I was struggling to control what I ate. When I got stressed, I would eat constantly. Monitoring this, and talking about it and past events helped me to understand why food was my go to and what I would have to do to stop it. Catherine has been invaluable in a stressful period, and I now even do yoga with my daughter without fear of judgement.

“At the point that I entered therapy I was even guilty about eating a slice of bread, obsessed with what I was eating and losing some weight. The shame I felt lead me down the road of binge eating disorder, and I had no manageability around my food consumption.

The GP’s I spoke to didn’t seem to understand and wanted to refer me to weight loss programmes, which I knew wasn’t what I needed.

In the mix of all this two of my children were severely poorly

With the support of Catherine, I have been able to get through the tough times and take back control of what food I consume.

I no longer feel guilty or judged because I’m not adhering to a national company weight loss programme, and having them weigh me every week for a £20 a month membership.

I have learned and accepted that life is about moderation, this includes certain food groups, exercise, work, and with a nice balance and we can experience long lasting health and wellbeing.  If one day the balance of moderation isn’t quite right, I now feel no guilt or shame about this, I simply draw a line under it, accept it and move on. Previously I would have reacted by spending £10-£15 bingeing on chocolate and takeaways for a cycle that could last one day, or daily for over a month.

Yes I would still like to lose weight for health reasons, but I don’t let that desire take over my mind and allow myself to become obsessed with it. I have no idea what I currently weigh and to be honest have no desire to weigh myself and find that out. I now take each day as it comes and like I said earlier, aim to live my life in moderation.

I am massively appreciative for the support I have received from Catherine and would recommend her services to anyone.

I will even let you into a little secret, I even eat bread now!”
